Why not trying the best Tonkatsu (pork cutlet) in Yokohama?
There is always a queue at this restaurant for lunch, and no English menu. But do not worry, I will let you know the best way to have this perfect Tonkatsu for non-Japanese speakers.
Maruwa is a famous Tonkatsu restaurant in Yokohama central. It is also selected one of the 100 greatest Tonkatsu restaurants all over Japan. Their pork cutlets are perfectly tender and crunchy.
People stand in a line about 30 mins before door opens for lunch. So it would be better to arrive the restaurant by 11:10 am to be called for the first entrance as only 25 customers can enter inside. The top quality makes it worth.
Point!
Better to get in the queue before 11:10 for the first entrance at 11:30.
Lunch price is much reasonable in comparison to dinner.
It is a tacit understanding that you eat and go without overstaying because of customers waiting outside.
If you wish to see the chef's professional work the best location is the innermost 2 seats at the bar which are allocated for the first person/group in the queue when the door opens.
Lunch Hirekatsu set, 1,300yen(pork fillet)
Lunch Tonkatsu set, 1,200yen (pork loin)
Please note that you are asked to share a table at the peak crowds. The peak crowds hours are between 11:30 to 13:30.
No-crowds hour is after 13:30 and dinner time, but the menu might be limited in those late hours.
Small groups (less than 4 people) would be preferable as the restaurant is small. They have 25 seats (4 small tables, 9 seats at the bar, 4 seats on Tatami mat) in the restaurants.
The atmosphere is quiet with no music.
